The Birth Place of American Music

“As a singer and songwriter making a living in the music business today, I am proud to represent just a small part of Mississippi’s rich musical legacy. My appreciation for and love of music is directly tied to my upbringing in Grenada, Mississippi, a stone’s throw from the landmarks that helped give birth to American music. Though I hang my hat in Tennessee, when I stand on stages across the world, I tell people I’m from Mississippi. I feel a deep connection to my roots, and I believe that one of the most important things about the Follow Your Heart Arts Program is that we make sure our students learn about and share that feeling of connection to the history of the place they call home.”

Since it's creation, the Delta Blues Museum has preserved, interpreted and encouraged a deep interest in the story of the blues. Established in 1979 by the Carnegie Library Board of Trustees and re-organized as a stand-alone museum in 1999, the Delta Blues Museum is Mississippi's oldest music museum.
